Dion says he’d cut corporate tax rate
In a speech yesterday to the Economic Club of Toronto, Mr. Dion said he wants to push the federal corporate tax rate well below that of the United States, and accused the Conservative government of doing little in this regard.
The previous Liberal government was in the process of lowering the rate to 19 per cent from 28 per cent, he said. The Conservatives, he charged, have only pledged to cut the rate to 18.5 per cent by 2011.
Boy, do I wish I could have a 9% reduction in taxes! (And according to Dion, this tax cut will be even larger!) This tax cut will put the burden on low income and middle class families, taking money out of government services that they use everyday - Health Care and Education to name a few. This tax cut does not make sense when our services are stressed to the limit and underfunded, and corporations are thriving and making record profits.
