5 Things Feminism Has Done For Me
Posted by Tyler Kinch on 1st October 2006
I am posting this, as many others are doing in the progressive community. As a male, feminism has done many things for me. It is often forgotten that feminism is for the betterment of society, not just women.
- It has made me a better boyfriend:
Without feminism, I don’t think I would be enjoying the type of relationship that I am in right now. We both respect each other, and we both contribute to the relationship. Without feminism, I would not be as happy as I am right now with my love life.
- It has eliminated some gender roles:
I’ve had plenty of jobs where in the past it would be consider a “woman’s jobâ€. These types of jobs are no longer specifically for one gender. Feminism has removed gender roles for both females and males, allowing me to be what I truly want to be. - It has made me a more conscious progressive person:
I am reminded every so often of all the work that women suffragists did only decades ago, and are still doing today. This makes me proud to be a part of Canada and a democracy. Feminism gives me inspiration to work for a better world in many different ways.
- It has made me more open minded:
Feminism has made me open my mind to others thoughts, ideas and opinions. I look back on history, and no one is ever 100% right. This open mindedness allows me to make decisions that do not just improve myself, but improve everyone around me.
- It has made the world a better place:
I’m happy I was born into a more progressive world then it was in the past. I am more accepted for my differences and I accept others differences. And together we use our differences to make the world an even better place.

Feminism still has a long battle to fight. I encourage women everywhere to continue this fight; it is certainly a worthy one.
