NDP standing up for Calgarians on affordability
Posted by Tyler Kinch on December 8th, 2006
It is sad when you have to have MPs from Ontario speaking on behalf of you and no Alberta MPs when you are in Alberta. But the vast majority of Calgary politicians (Councilors, MLAs, and MPs) are not taking the current homeless and affordability problem seriously. We have a lack of housing. Yet our premiere-designate wants to solve the labour shortage before solving the housing crisis. I think his priorities are mixed around. What are we suppose to do, send in more workers and not have homes for them?
Back on topic: The NDP has called for an national state of emergency on the homeless crisis. Calgary currently has the largest homeless population in all of Canada, not anything to be proud of in the richest province. If a national state of emergency is declared, emergency funding and shelters can be accomplished in just days instead of years. This includes the creation of affordable housing.

Sometimes I think I’m the only one that can actually maintain LOGICAL thoughts these days… but nice to see I’m not alone. Thanks Tyler - it all seems pretty clear as a bell to me - how to fix these issues, and the GLARING problems with the bandaid patches our lovely mayor and PC government thoughtlessly throw out for us to choke and die on.

Hello Krystal. I know it can feel like you are alone, especially in Calgary. But there are a lot of progressive minded people in Alberta, they are just hiding.
I’m planning on posting about events and get togethers that I attend in Calgary here on this blog. So keep an eye out, incase anything interests you.

I really need to know how I can get involved.. anything I can do would help. I was born here, I’m 30 years old now, and suddenly - almost overnight - not only do I not recognize my home anymore, I’m not even sure I can stay here. My quality of life has dropped dramatically - in just six months - and despair is taking over.
