Time for change in Alberta
Posted by Tyler Kinch on September 24th, 2006
An election in Alberta is looming. A new leader is about to be picked for the Progressive Conservatives. I believe the new leader will want to have an election as soon as possible so that he/she can have a fresh mandate. Even if the leader does not call an early election, an election is still around the corner.
Alberta’s population is changing though. With leaky schools, the Tories lack of regard for oil revenues and no plan for the oil sands, the Progressive Conservatives are going to have to work really hard for their usual vote they are accustomed to in Alberta. I really do believe that we are coming to a shift of power in Alberta, and the party who truly stands up for Albertans and proves to Albertans that they actually care, will be the winners.
Not only have the issues caused the PC party to lose support, but also new comers to the province are creating greater support to the other parties. People from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and everywhere else know that things can be done a lot better. Why do Albertans, living the richest province in Canada, pay health premiums, high auto insurance and high oil/gas prices? Why do several schools in Calgary have leaky roofs? Why is our homeless rate climbing higher and higher? Where are the affordable homes? These are appropriate questions that the Tories are going to need to address and solve in the next election if they want to be elected again. I am very doubtful the questions will even be addressed, let alone dealt with and solved.
It’s time for a change Alberta. Make your vote count in the next election, vote for change.

I agree time for change!
What Alberta needs is the Alliance Party to win the next election so Alberta will be ruled by true conservatives instead of the leftwing, high spending PC Party of Alberta.

Hey Deno!!!
Do I have a critic for my blog now? I feel so flattered.
Really though, the PC Party of Alberta may not be the most right wing party in the world but I would not ever put leftwing in front of their names. It’s an insult to us lefties.
The Alliance Party, you say? Hah! I don’t think Albertans are that stupid.

I wonder how COMPLETELY out in right field one must be (light years) to be situated politically that your world view sees the Alberta PC party as left wing. Sounds to me right about off the political spectrum - sounds like a canadian taxpayers federation supporter.

The PC Party of Alberta spend money like drunken sailors. They are no more rightwing then the Manitoba or Sask NDP governments.
Alliance is the Alberta version of the Reform Party. My guess is Alliance will win a majority government in Alberta in 2 to 3 elections from now.
Albertans would never be stupid enough to vote in a liberal or NDP government. There are simply not that many stupid people in our province.
When this Alliance wins their majority Tyler are you going to move out of Alberta?

Although the PC Part of Alberta is spending money, they are spending it in all the wrong places. Funding needs to boost in areas such as Education, Health and Housing. These three areas specifically lacking funds. Instead the PC party does land deals with companies that funded them during the election, providing them with government land well under market value.
If the Alliance ever wins a majority, I would not move out of Alberta. I would continue working hard to make sure our health care system stays public and well funded, that our schools do not deteriate and that housing is affordable.

where are you guys comming from. you say that all they new immigrants to our land of plenty, alberta, know how to do things better- why dont they stay home and make thier own province or state better. the obvious answer is that they dont have the resources-what a load of bunk b.c.is favored with a lot more than albrta i.e natural ports, wood (until the government screwed with it) and believe it or not oil,as is ontario. saskatchewan has probably got the same resources alberta has but will not allow the entrepeneurs in to develop it.(god didnt draw a line at the sask border and say that that is the limit of the oilsands)
the arguement is always made by the pro govt people that we didnt control our tarsands development. well la de dah we have done the job and are living off of the profits now.a few people are having a tough time finding housing but that will be solved as soon as the people who make things happen(business people not govt) get on top of it and need to make a buck.
