Canada Climate Change Day

Posted by Tyler Kinch on May 14th, 2006

This is a call to anyone who cares about the environment, and is frightened by what the Conservative government (or any government) will do to it.

ccd.pngThe current government is cutting useful programs such as energuide. They are saying that they are implementing a “Made in Canada” solution, while getting rid of made in Canada ideas. They are spreading uneducated opinions, as though they were fact, that we can not reach our Kyoto targets. Other countries right now are reaching their targets, without taking every car and truck off the road, so what makes us different?

On August 26 2006, voices across Canada will be heard. These voices will be calling for the government to act, and act fast. We do not have much time left; we must act before it is too late. August, 26, 2006 is Canada Climate Change Day.

Please visit the website, and join by emailing renfunk@gmail.com to get updates on this event. Hopefully we can get communities from all over Canada involved, because I know that Canadians care about the environment.

Good timing. Just read PM Harper’s interview on his first 100 days, which will be on Wednesday this week. He has said that his next priority is the fix the mess in environment and climate change that the Liberals have made. Already much has been done. August will be good timing - you should get Minister Ambrose involved and all of the Provincial Environment Ministers to promote this as every Canadian has a personal responsibility to do their share. You can’t expect any level of government to come into your home and force you to use more efficient lightbulbs, fix your furnaces, insulate your attics, etc.
NO politician can MAKE you car pool or use the bus. No politician can FORCE you to recycle or not use herbicides.
So - why not get every level of government to help promote personal responsiblity.

Only when ALL Canadians do their part are we going to make any difference. THEN and only then can we “lecture” the rest of the world. We as citizens can lead by example and as a knowledge based economy start initiating environmental technology that we can also market to the world.

    What do you think?

I like your idea. It gave me some ideas for the day.

What about contacting manufacturers or retailers of energy efficient products, and get them involved too?

  3. Craig Baird Says:

I think that is a great idea
