Partisan Island

This is in regards to the flag flying debate currently going on in the House of Commons.
My first instinctual question to this issue is “Why not?†Watching and listening to call in shows on television and radio, I wonder if some of my fellow Canadians have lost their instincts.
I am really thinking of producing a reality TV show. Let’s call it Partisan Island. Where you take very partisan Canadians away on some deserted island for a few months and then you ask these Canadians questions about issues the House of Commons is currently entangled with. The results could be interesting. I bet you if this done during this flag flying debate, most people who call themselves conserv
ative would say something along the lines of, “Yes we should respect our soldiers in every way possible.†Yet instead, today, people who call themselves conservatives (or at least a great number of them) are starting to believe what their leaders are saying, which is the exact opposite of what they probably would instinctually believe. But the government is running on a secret agenda – they do not want Canadians to know the real cost of the war in Afghanistan and they will do everything to hide anything that could start making Canadians question our role.
So I say it is about time that we start thinking for ourselves. Why not respect the sacrifice our soldiers make in such a simple yet powerful way?
